looking over the edge
Well - yesterday we thought she would be dying on us - but by the end of today with first Sue - twin - arriving here - then the hospice nurse wanting a face to face home visit with her - finally mum and dad turning up tonight....Ali has found the energy to sit up and chat! So we are having a more up-beat prayer meeting tonight - safe in the knowledge that Ali is certainly not about to leave us. What a roller coaster.
Things are not the same. For one thing, Asha sat with her mummy and daddy this afternoon talking about how insects animals and people die - some after only a short lifetime - she at least now can anticipate making special times happen with Ali each time more deliberate than before - deliberate in that she can perhaps show love and tenderness for her mummy in a four year old sort of way...of saying goodbye?
Ali is very sleepy. She can rise to the challenge of conversation - as today proved. But everything is slow and sentences are hard work, so we are being very gentle on her. She also cannot move very much.
Thank you for your messages and loving gestures. We will keep you as up to date as we can.
Chris

We are thinking of you and sending much love to you all. Particularly hoping that the warmth of the patchwork and the love with which it was made, spreads to you and shelters you beneath it.

Your talking about the steps you take along the (this) way keeps us much more than "up-to-date"! Your letting us be part of your labyrinth journey (sometimes closer to the center, sometimes seemingly far away and heading in the opposite direction) is treasured. Much love and many prayers from over here.

Ali, Psalm 18:1 has been a great encouragement to me and I hope it will be to you also, "I love Thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress and my deliverer. My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." My God be your strength and uphold you and all those whom you hold dear. We are praying for you.

Its characteristically 'our Ali' to not want to miss a conversation opportunity! Lovely that there are some special moments with Asha and the family all around. What else can anyone say? May our good lord be especially close and give everyone what they need.

Chris & Ali, you know that I am not a religious person, so my words can only come from the heart and not from the bible or prayers or hymns. I have been following Ali´s progress now since day 1 and found hers and your strength and faith in your beliefs amazing. I don´t know if I could have gone through this experience with as much dignity and forgiveness like you both have. You are (both) truly courageous and I thank you for sharing something so very personal and painful, for it has made me look deeper into myself and made me appreciate my husband and little girl so much more. I found this blog particularly upsetting and read through tears of brave little Asha saying goodbye to her Mummy, but then smiled at Ali not missing a chance to chat, so her!
Please pass on my love to her, much love to you all. You are surrounded by your friends and family that pray for you each day and the ones who don´t, well we think of you too, in our own special way, sending you our love and support. Stay strong.
